Print Series
Printing onto textile is the foundation of my art and teaching practice. Alongside screen printing I often use thermofax screens which utilise duplicating technology from the 1950’s. Connections to print run through my family. My husband used an old Gestetner machine to print sci-fi fanzines thirty years ago. My daughter is heavily involved in the self-publishing / zine movement and runs a riso printing business. And, bringing things full circle, I have written, and self-published, two books.
This series is a celebration of the evolution of print. From the process of printing from engraved wooden blocks (Xylography) to the digital printing revolution. The background of each piece is made from a collection of monochromatic breakdown printed fabrics. The text from my own hand dyed fabrics. These pieces are big and bold and I had great fun making them.
