Breakdown printing is a two-step screen printing process that uses water-soluble dyes to create completely unique prints. The process was developed in the US, where it is known as deconstructed screen printing, by Kerr Grabowski in the 1990s.  The prints made by the breakdown process cannot be wholly predicted or controlled. It is an accessible form of printing that doesn’t require expensive or specialist equipment. And I love it! The majority of fabrics used to create the Print series were breakdown printed. Verdana is the typeface used in this quilt.

This piece is one of four small quilts in my Print series that were part of my solo exhibition at Festival of Quilts in 2019. The quilt is supplied with top and bottom hanging sleves.
